  1. I too have this DVD player. You forgot to mention one other “format” that handles. It plays PAL DVD’s as well. 🙂

I tried your procedure for region free playing, and it works… Very nice, Thank You.

  2. We bought this same DVD player about a year ago and it’s held up quite well to our two year old ‘testing it out’ on numerous occasions. It does play all kinds of formats. Don’t you think 6 years IS actually a long time for it to work for you? Just a thought. I mean, it was only 40 bucks.

  3. Thank you so much for this post. I, too, bought this for $40 at Walmart 2 years ago. I had it set up to play all regions but a recent power outage reset the player to region 1 and I could not remember how to get my personal setting back.

    THANKS!

  4. I went out looking for this philips dvd model # 396 2/37 at Wal-Mart and found out they no longer carry it. Where can i purchase this product?

  5. I have this dvd player but have lost the remote ..so we cant fast forward or rewind….usually dvd players has these features on the system itself no just the remote. …am i missing it somewhere on the system ? Please help

Klink: No, only works with a remote like this one here.
