The last two years there have been some big improvements in Skype phones and the new GE DECT 6.0 leads the pack.
If you have been using Skype for a while you probably know how aggravating using headphones and a mike can be. Most people will eventually move up to a good handset. Until now there has been no clear choice on witch way to go.
The GE DECT 6.0 comes with a base station/charger that plugs into a standard phone jack and a USB connector to your computer. Your computer needs to be on and logged into Skype for it to work. This model is a Dual phone which allows you to connect to a standard land line/VoIP or Skype. It is small. About the size of most 2 year old cell phones which is a nice change from most home cordless phones. The voice quality is solid and clear without the echoing sound you can get with other phones.
The handset has a bright color LCD screen that can be seen well even outdoors. Battery life is good. Up to 10 hours talk time thanks to a 800-mAh nickel hydride pack. I also found the speakerphone to be better than average. While talking to my family overseas everyone in the room was able to talk freely as if we were all together.
The GE DECT 6.0 has made it possible for me to finally drop my long distance carrier. I can now enjoy great sound quality along with almost free and unlimited conversion with friends and family overseas.
